KOLORIANG, Jun 10: A high-category wind hit Koloriang town and its adjoining areas in Kurung Kumey district on Sunday afternoon and left several houses damaged in its wake.
Confirming the incident, Kurung Kumey Deputy Commissioner Kangki Darang, who was in the state capital on official work, said the storm lashed Koloriang town around 3 pm and lasted for about half an hour.
“As per the information, the wind uprooted the roofs of several houses and caused substantial damages to many houses and household properties,” Darang said.
Kurung Kumey SP Mihin Gambo informed that he has instructed his officials to visit the area and help the affected people.
According to local sources, at least six houses were badly damaged in Taipa village while several houses were damaged in Nikja, Kolung, Ramja, Yapak and Sotum villages, as well as in Koloriang township area.
Local MLA Pani Taram has appealed to the district administration and the state government to immediately provide relief to the affected people.
