ITANAGAR, Jun 19: Distribution of school books, plantation programmes, and donation of ration items to schoolchildren marked the 48th birthday celebration of AICC president Rahul Gandhi in Arunachal Pradesh.
The Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) celebrated Rahul’s birthday by cutting a cake and screening a video on his life at Rajiv Gandhi Bhavan here on Tuesday.
APCC president Takam Sanjoy recalled the political history of the INC since 1885. He also highlighted how the Nehru-Gandhi family sacrificed their lives for the sake of the nation.
Sanjoy expressed confidence that Rahul would become the next prime minister of India, and appealed to Congress workers to fight collectively “to defeat the evil forces that are trying to mock the democracy and the constitution of India.”
Later, an APCC team along with office bearers of various frontal organizations and party workers arrived in Dokum Colony here and celebrated the day with the orphans and the downtrodden children of City Mission School.
Sanjoy donated 250 kgs of rice and 10 kgs of lentils to the school. Sweets were also distributed among the school children.
AIMC general secretary Jarjum Ete highlighted Rahul’s political journey. She also remembered Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi, and their contributions to nation-building.
The District Congress Committee (DCC) and the District Youth Congress (DYC) of Namsai planted trees in the Namsai DCC office to mark the day.
The Lohit DCC and DYC also celebrated Rahul’s birthday at Tezu. They distributed books and pens among the students of Govt Primary School there, and participated in a plantation drive in the school’s premises.
