ITANAGAR, Jun 26: Urban Development and Housing Minister Kumar Waii called upon the officers and officials of his department to maintain strict financial discipline, quality and to adhere to the target as fixed for completion of projects.
Reviewing the activities of his department in a meeting here on Tuesday, Waii suggested for taking prompt initiatives for pro-poor programmes, such as NULM, PMAY, SBM etc launched by the central government.
He also emphasized on the importance of maintaining cordial relationship with the district administration and other heads of office at various urban centres for smooth implementation of programmes and schemes.
“Efforts should be made for completion of the projects of prime importance, like construction of stadiums, flats for senior officers and MLA apartments within the targeted period,” he said.
The minister also urged the divisional officers to give special focus while selecting beneficiaries for various centrally sponsored programmes so that genuine beneficiaries are selected and benefited.
“Training must be imparted to beneficiaries in specific selected trade to make them skilled persons, enabling them to sustain their livelihood,” he said.
The minister after minutely going through the various bottlenecks of the department, especially shortage of manpower for sanitation activities and light inspection vehicles for field officers, has assured to look into the matter.
T Darang, in-charge Chief Engineer-cum-Director (UD&H) presented the status of various activities of the department, including implementation of flagship programmes like Swachh Bharat Mission, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, National Urban Livelihood Mission, centrally sponsored schemes, schemes under state plan and other administrative issues.
Participating in the review meeting, Parliamentary Secretary (UD) Techi Kaso urged the divisional officers to stick to the target for completion of all the important projects to avoid cost escalation and public criticism.
Secretary (UD) SK Jain urged the divisional officers to give special emphasis on segregating solid waste to minimize the requirement of landfill site as segregation of biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste at source is the only scientific way to dispose solid waste.
