PECH, Jul 28: Sagalee PHED Division Executive Engineer Teli Datto Camdir sought the people’s participation for the success of any development programme.
“Without people’s participation, success of any government scheme or programme cannot be ensured,” Camdir said, addressing a series of awareness camps on health and hygiene held in view of the Swachh Survekshan Gramin (SSG)-2018, which will be launched next month in two blocks of Papum Pare district.
Camdir informed that door-to-door campaigns are underway to create awareness among the people about the importance of cleanliness and sanitation practices.
“This campaign will be continued until the last villager is educated about the importance of cleanliness,” he said.
Altogether 209 villages in Sagalee and Mengio blocks will be covered under the SSG, informed district consultant Liyum Basar.
The IEC campaign, which started on Friday, has covered 10 villages so far.
“Several teams have been constituted for the IEC campaign, and it is expected that the campaign will be completed within a week,” Basar said.
She informed that 3797 individual household latrines have so far been constructed in Sagalee and Mengio blocks.
Former ASM Tan Chicky, villager elders and leaders also spoke.
The team also took part in sanitation camps at the government higher secondary school in Sagalee, the government middle school in Khamlee, and the church in Pech.
In Seppa, East Kameng Deputy Commissioner GS Rajawat launched the SSG-2018 on Saturday.
The DC urged stakeholders and community members to coordinate with each other and help in making East Kameng one of the best-performing districts in the country.
He instructed the DMO, the DDSE, the ICDS DD and market welfare organizations to cooperate with the PHED in conducting social service activities.
PHED EE Bharat Sonam highlighted the objectives of the SSG.
