APCC demands safety for women passengers

ITANAGAR, Aug 18: Reacting to the recent incident when three women travelling from Itanagar to Guwahati faced extreme humiliation and were threatened with dire consequences by a cabdriver of Sahara Tours & Travels, the Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has demanded that the state government initiate “public road transport safety measures” for women.
Expressing concern over the “increasing misconduct and violence against women every day,” the APCC said there should be strict rules and regulations for the public and private transport operators to ensure safety and security for passengers, particularly women passengers.
Informing that the central government had taken up various measures after the Nirbhaya rape case, the APCC said the state government should take similar measures to make travelling safe for women and other passengers.
