ITANAGAR, Sep 14: The Indian Council of Agriculture Research’s (ICAR) NEH Region Director Dr N Prakash called on Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein at his office here on Friday.
During their interaction, Mein sought the ICAR’s help to strengthen the research & development (R&D) wing of the agriculture and allied sectors in the state, and to back the agreement that would be made with the CSIR-North East Institute of Science & Technology and Rain Forest Research Institute, Jorhat (Assam).
He sought the ICAR’s support for infrastructure development of the Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVK) in the state, and requested its support to the farmers-producers’ company which was formed recently and registered with the Spices Board of India.
The two discussed how to find ways to promote marketing of agriculture produces of the farmers in order to boost their economy.
Dr Prakash informed that the ICAR would provide support for infrastructure development of the KVKs in Anjaw, Namsai and Longding districts. He also assured that steps would be taken to boost the economy of the poorer and marginal farmers in the agriculture and allied sectors.
The director was accompanied by ICAR NEH Region Joint Director Dr H Kalita and Anjaw, Namsai and Longding KVK head Dr Manish Kanwat. (PRO, DCM)
