CHONGKHAM, Sep 19: Two people have been arrested as suspects for the murder of 18-year-old Biraj Mins by the Chongkham unit police under Namsai district within 24 hours of receiving the report.
The two accused have been identified as tea garden labourers Kartik Gamang (20 years) and Dinesh Murmu (23 years).
According to Namsai superintendent of police Ankit Singh, tea garden owner Chow Sanjay Mein had informed the police that someone had killed his labourer’s son near the tea garden entry gate along the NH-52 on the night of 16 September.
The police team led by Inspector Dumgandu Singpho and SI T Haging, under the supervision of the SP, nabbed Gamang and Murmu from different parts of Chongkham area as suspects.
During interrogation, the suspects confessed of murdering Mins on 16 September at around 8.30 PM.
The suspects admitted that they were all friends and had consumed liquor together and had a heated argument on some issue before the murder.
Based on their revelation, the police team recovered the objects (smeared with blood) used for murdering the deceased, which were thrown at some distance from the crime scene.
After conducting necessary legal formalities, the body was forwarded to the CHC Chongkham for post mortem examination and later handed over to the relatives for the last rites.
