University soccer league starts

RONO HILLS, Sep 28: The 3rd University Soccer League of Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) started at the university’s campus here on Friday.
The soccer league is an annual interactive event which aims to bring together students, faculty members and staffs of the university. Altogether 21 teams from various departments, branches and cells of the university are participating, informed RGU Finance Officer (in-charge) Dr David Pertin.
The final match of the tournament, which is being played on a rubber league mode, will be played on 11 October.
Defending champions, the commerce department team defeated the research scholars’ team by 2-0 goals in the inaugural match. The goals were scored by Mitin Tayeng and Manthan Chitan.
Social Justice and Empowerment & Tribal Affairs Director Yumlam Kaha in his address to the players highlighted the flagship schemes launched for the welfare of the tribal people and being undertaken by the central and state governments.
