Cong to hold protests outside CBI offices

NEW DELHI/ITANAGAR, Oct 25: The Congress party will hold protests on Friday outside all Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) offices across the country, demanding an apology from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and reinstatement of CBI Director Alok Verma, who has been sent on leave.
Top Congress leaders will be part of the protest outside the CBI headquarters in the national capital, while state leaders, including state party chiefs, will take part in similar protests, Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said.
He said the party will ask the prime minister to apologiZe to the nation for “illegal and unconstitutional” sending on leave of the CBI director. The party will also seek reinstatement of Verma.
The Congress leaders and cadres of Arunachal Pradesh will gherao the CBI office in Itanagar at 11 am on Friday as part of AICC protest programme, Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Takam Sanjoy informed.
“The present CBI status, devastating RBI through demonetization that killed many innocent people, interference in appointment of judges of Supreme Court that evoked protest from judges and meddling with the Election Commission of India amounted to destruction of time-tested democratic institutions and murder of democracy by present BJP-led NDA government headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” Sanjoy said in a statement.
