Scientific beekeeping trg underway

NAMSAI, Dec 11: Farmers and beekeepers from Lekang, Chowkham, Namsai, Lathoa and Piyong circles of Namsai district are participating in a weeklong training programme on scientific beekeeping which got underway at the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) here on Tuesday.
Addressing the participants, ADF S Jawal emphasized on taking up scientific beekeeping along with agricultural and horticultural crop production to generate more income.
Namsai KVK Head Dr Debasis Sasmal highlighted the present scenario of the bee industry in the country, and its prospects in the northeastern region.
East Siang KVK senior scientist Dr M Pathak apprised the participants of the importance of beekeeping and its prospects in agriculture and horticulture crop production.
Plant protection scientist Toge Riba and Drs RK Patidar and Santosh Kumar explained domestication and management of bees, bee economics, etc.
A method demonstration was held for the farmers, during which the Namsai KVK SMS demonstrated and explained the extraction methodology, processing and storage of honey.
The training is being organized by Pasighat (East Siang)-based College of Horticulture & Forestry in collaboration with the KVK here and the ICAR NEH region’s Basar (Lepa Rada)-based state centre.
The training is being imparted under the Krishi Kalyan Abhiyan-II.
