AALO, Mar 30: Retired additional superintendent of police (ASP), Yido Boje, passed away here in West Siang district on Saturday.
A native of Boje Kigi village in West Siang district, Yido did his schooling from the government higher secondary school in Ziro, and started his career as an upper division clerk in the law branch under the Arunachal secretariat in Naharlagun in 1975.
Later, he joined the Arunachal Pradesh Police as a sub-inspector in 1978. He got promoted to the post of inspector in May 1988, and to the post of DSP in 2001. He retired as an ASP in August 2013.
In a condolence message, the Boje Ao Welfare Society (BAWS) on Saturday deeply mourned Boje’s demise, and termed his death a great loss to the society and the state.
The BAWS also extended condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul.
The Galo Peoples’ Front (GPF) has also mourned the death Boje.
“Yido Boje, who joined the police department as sub-inspector in 1978, rose to the rank of ASP in 2009 due to his sheer dedication to work and sincerity in the given task,” the GPF stated in a condolence message.
It said Boje was awarded Class-I commendation certificates in 1996, 1998, 2010 and 2011 “for his meritorious performances in the given tasks in the state and Assam as well, and also for maintaining law and order in his places of postings.”
It said Boje was also actively involved in social activities by associating himself with various organizations.
He served as the president of the Donyi Polo Kargu Gamgi (2010-13), the Kargu Kardi Welfare Society (1994), and the Itanagar Mopin Festival Celebration Committee (2004).
“With his passing away, the Galo community has lost a guardian and luminary figure and has created a vacuum in the society,” the GPF said.
The members of the GPF held a condolence meeting, during which they observed a two-minute silence as a mark of respect to the departed soul. They also conveyed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.
