GWS president passes away

ITANAGAR, May 11: Galo Welfare Society (GWS) president Dr Minge Loyi passed away on Saturday, following a brief illness.
Dr Loyi had suffered a cardiac arrest while attending a meeting of the North East Forum for Indigenous People in Shillong, Meghalaya, on 30 April.
Expressing condolences to the bereaved family and the Galo community as a whole, the National People’s Party’s Liromoba MLA candidate Jarpum Gamlin prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and wished for strength to the family.
“Although his tenure as GWS president has been short, yet, in his capacity as the general secretary of the GWS, Dr Loyi’s seminal contributions in creation of new Galo-inhabited districts, the Galo Heritage Centre, and in upholding the Galo culture through teaching of the language in the schools shall remain as testimonies to his strong leadership,” Gamlin said in a condolence message.
