Respect the mandate

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has won with a thumping majority in the assembly election and is going to form its own elected government for the first time in the state. Under the leadership of Pema Khandu, the BJP has won 41 seats and is all set to form the next government. With the BJP winning absolute majority at the Centre too, there is massive expectation among the people of the state. The period from 2014 to 2019 was one of the worst in the history of the state. Development took a backseat and political bickering overshadowed the period.
The state saw constant change of government, and it severely affected governance. Now that the people of Arunachal Pradesh have given absolute majority to the BJP in the state and also elected two members of parliament from the saffron party, there is huge expectation. Chief Minister Pema Khandu has huge responsibilities on his shoulders. There will be immense pressure on him to deliver good governance to the citizens. Failure will not be accepted, especially by the young and restless voters. Also, the role of the two MPs will be crucial in ensuring that the Centre fully supports the state government. MoS for Home Kiren Rijiju, who won with a record margin and is now considered to be one of the tallest leaders of party from the NE region, will have to play an important role. The saffron party has been given absolute majority by the people and they better respect the mandate by working hard to fulfill the people’s aspirations.
