Newspaper organising debate

ITANAGAR, May 26: The Morung Express, an English daily newspaper published from Nagaland, is organizing its annual debate competition, ‘The Morung Debate’, in two editions, in August and September this year.
The first edition is tentatively scheduled to be held on 16 August and the second and final edition on 7 September in Dimapur, Nagaland.
“The purpose of the debate competition is to create a platform for healthy dialogue and competition, where relevant topics on socioeconomic, cultural, political and religious issues will be debated,” the daily stated.
It also aims to encourage young people to engage in competitive and healthy dialogue, where they share opinions on issue-based subjects that may impact the social discourse, the daily said.
The competition is a team-based event and is open to individuals between the ages of 18 and 25 years.
While the winning team will receive Rs 50,000, the runner-up will be awarded Rs 30,000.
There are also prizes for the ‘best speaker’ and the ‘most promising team’, and individual certificates will be awarded to all the participants.
Besides cash prizes, there will be a running trophy for the winning team. The two semifinalists will also be awarded cash prizes.
