Difficult days ahead for Congress

The resignation spree in Congress continues with Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) Takam Sanjoy latest to announce that he is resigning owning moral responsibilities for the party’s defeat in the assembly and Lokh Sabha election. Several state Congress chiefs have tendered resignations over the past few days after disastrous performance of party in the parliament election. It is reported that AICC President Rahul Gandhi has also decided to step down from his post though Congress workers and leaders are trying to convince him not to do so. The Congress managed to win only 4 seats and lost both the Lokh Sabha seats in Arunachal Pradesh.
Though party was fighting against a formidable BJP but still Congress was expected to win atleast 15 seats in assembly and one of the seat for Lokh Sabha. But it is alleged that wrong distribution of ticket cost party dearly. Congress has ruled state since union territory days and has presence at grass root. Still there are thousands of loyal Congress workers. However with BJP in power both at centre and in the state, it will very difficult for the party to revive its fortune in Arunachal Pradesh. The saffron party is splash with funds and has become big attraction for the leaders and voters alike. Congress will find it extremely difficult to attract leaders. Their best hope lies in promoting new generation leaders. The joining of youth leaders will energize party and it may sow the seed of revival in the state. Also it will be interesting to see how Congress performs as an opposition party in the state.
