ITANAGAR, Jun 22: The Arunachal State Badminton Association (ASBA) has tasked the Tawang District Badminton Association (TDBA) with organizing the 7th Dorjee Khandu Memorial State Open Badminton Championship, 2019.
However, the hosting of the event is subject to the feasibility report by the observer(s) who will assess the facilities available to host the event in the first week of September.
This was decided in an executive body meeting of the ASBA in the conference hall of the Sports Authority of Arunachal (SAA) in Chimpu, near here, on Saturday, informed ASBA secretary Bamang Tago.
The meeting approved Sangay Lhaden Sports Academy as a separate body for participation in all domestic tournaments and championships organized by ASBA and its federal units.
It also approved conducting annual state level intensive coaching camps under the ASBA’s ‘Catch them young’ programme for U-9, U-11 and U-13 sportspersons, to be nominated by the district badminton associations.
Each district association will nominate two boys and two girls for the coaching camp, the ASBA decided.
The meeting further approved the 12 empanelled coaches for the ASBA, based on their merits and experiences, with Dilip Gurung as the chief coach.
Earlier, the meeting approved the annual event calendar of the ASBA, which had been released by Badminton Association of India (BAI) general secretary Ajay Kumar Singhania during the annual general body meeting of the BAI in New Delhi last month.
The meeting also acknowledged Chief Minister Pema Khandu and his family for donating their private land, measuring 23,335 sq ft, free of cost for construction of an eight-court badminton hall of the SAA in Chimpu.
Later, the ASBA members visited the proposed site for the Dorjee Khandu Badminton Academy.
