DA issues safety advisory

PASIGHAT, Jun 28: The East Siang district administration has issued a safety advisory, cautioning the people, particularly those living in low-lying areas, to refrain from venturing into the Siang river and its tributaries for any activity.
Deputy Commissioner Kinny Singh issued the advisory in view of the continuing monsoon rains and the rise in the level of the Siang and its tributaries.
The administration has advised those living in the low-lying areas on either bank of the Siang, namely, Jarku, Paglek, SS Mission, Jarkong, Banskota, Berung, Sigar, Borguli, Seram, Kongkul, Namsing and Mer, to remain alert but not panic as the river is flowing below the danger level as of now.
The administration has also prohibited lifting of driftwood or “any vegetative materials” that have drifted to the sides of the rivers, “as these serve as natural flood-control mechanisms.”
It said violating the order would attract action under Section 188 of the IPC and other relevant provisions of the law. (DIPRO)
