ITANAGAR, Jul 3: The state level Subroto Cup (U-17) football tournament for both boys and girls sections will be held here from 18 to 30 July.
While the girls’ section of the tournament will be conducted from 18 to 23 July, the boys’ section of the tournament will be held from 25 to 30 July, informed Youth Welfare Officer of the Directorate of Secondary Education, L Sokun Singh.
The matches of the league-cum-knock-out tournament will be played at the Chimpu GSS and Dera Natung Government College (DNGC) playgrounds here, Singh, who also is the tournament organizing secretary, said, adding that the inaugural matches will be played at the DNGC playground.
Meanwhile, defending champions GHSS, Doimukh will represent Papum Pare in both the sections of the state level Subroto Cup football tournament.
The girls’ team of the Doimukh GHSS, which won the state level tournament last year, defeated government secondary school, RGU Complex 2-0 in the final.
In the boys’ section, defending district champions, Doimukh GHSS defeated GSS, RGU by a solitary goal.
Both the finals were played at Rono Ground, Doimukh on Wednesday.
Nabam Nega and Chukhu Yopu were adjudged best players in the boys’ and girls’ category, respectively, while Michi Mudo and Bengia Yanu were adjudged the ‘best scorers’ in the boys’ and girls’ category, respectively.
Principal Mokir Kamki and vice principal Aisena Tang of Doimukh GHSS, and APO CK Yab distributed the prizes to the winners.
The tournament was organized by the Papum Pare DDSE.
