ITANAGAR, Aug 5: The All Papum Poma Students’ Union (APPSU) has requested the state government to rename the government law college in Jote after former minister, late TC Teli.
In a memorandum it submitted to the education minister, the union while welcoming the start of the college’s academic session called for renaming the college after Teli, saying that “it would be a fitting tribute to the service rendered by late Teli for the people of Doimukh assembly constituency.”
The union also called for reservation of seats in the college for the people of the area who donated land for establishing the college.
“On behalf of student community and the public of the area, we would like to remind the state government that the land for the establishment of the law college was donated free of cost by the locals in hopes of getting some special reservation (seats) for the students of the locality. But the notification issued by the higher & technical education department, dated 20 June, for conducting of a law entrance test, which does not reflect any such reservation, has deeply saddened the locals,” the union said, and requested the minister to look into the issue.
The union also demanded direct recruitment to C & D grade jobs for the land donors as compensation, “as the entire land for the purpose has been donated free of cost.”
