NAHARLAGUN, Aug 30: Industries Minister Tumke Bagra along with Textile & Handicrafts Director Haj Dodung and others visited the Oju Welfare Association (OWA) here on Friday.
OWA chairperson Ratan Anya briefed the visitors on the schemes run by the association, such as the Women Helpline-181, the children’s home, the specialized adoption agency, the short-stay home for women in distress, the legal aid clinic, and the vocational training units.
The visitors also took stock of the activities being carried out at the OWA, especially its handloom and handicrafts centre.
Addressing those present on the occasion, the minister recalled his association with the OWA’s founder chairperson, late Binny Yanga, in 1988, “when a school was being initially set up in Naharlagun,” and said he was impressed by the gamut of activities being implemented by the association.
“Oju has become one of the role-model organizations in the state,” Bagra said.
He assured to extend all possible support to further strengthen the institution and enhance its outreach and its intake capacity in various training centres, especially the handloom and handicrafts centre. (DIPR)
