ITANAGAR, Oct 16: Along with the rest of the world, the World Food Day (WFD) was celebrated on Wednesday in several districts of Arunachal Pradesh with awareness programmes on food security and nutritious diet for all.
World Food Day 2019 aims at providing healthy diets for a zero hunger world. It is celebrated to create awareness among masses about food security.
At Tawang, the WFD was celebrated jointly by the Deputy Director Agriculture (Research) and Krishi Vigyan Kendra in presence of over 30 participants.
Tawang Extra Assistant Commissioner D Lama exhorted on the participants to avoid wastage of any kind of food and make healthy food available for all.
Earlier, Agriculture Development Officer KB Kayastha briefed about importance of the WFD celebration.
Tawang DDA Lobsang Zimba, DDA (R) LT Lama, DFDO MC Adak and many other officers from concerned department spoke on the occasion.
At Kharsang in Changlang district, the WFD was celebrated by Women Fellowship of Believers Eastern Church, Changlang Diocese at Sukla Tea Garden.
Around 90 daily tea garden labourers, including children and the elderly were served food to mark the occasion.
In Namsai district, the WFD was celebrated jointly by the Agriculture department (Training) of the district and Farmers Training Centre, Kherem with the theme, ‘Our actions are our future. Healthy diet for a zero-hunger world’, at the Namsai Town Club on Wednesday.
Importance of the WFD celebration was highlighted by Namsai DDA-in-charge R Mannow, while officers from the agriculture and allied departments dealt on the importance of the WFD from their points of view.
ADO DK Bora gave a PowerPoint presentation on the subjects related to food security and impact of various central and state-sponsored schemes in Namsai district.
Around 100 progressive farmers, including female farmers from different villages, Namsai ADC O Lego and other government officers from concerned departments attended the programme.
