ITANAGAR, Oct 22: The disaster management department conducted a series of sensitization programmes on disaster preparedness, along with mock exercises, at the directorates of various departments in the capital from 14 to 22 October.
The overall programme was aimed at conveying the importance of preparing office disaster management plans (ODMP) and apprising the officers and officials of their roles and responsibilities in the event of disasters.
Resource persons from the disaster management department advised the participants to prepare their ODMPs and conduct regular mock drills based on their plans, in order to enable the officials to react appropriately when an actual disaster strikes and reduce their response time.
Doimukh-based 12th Bn NDRF Assistant Commandant, Sanjay Sharma, spoke on “basic safety tips on earthquake, landslide, fire,” etc, while 12th Bn NDRF Inspector Ranvir Pathania and his team demonstrated various rescue techniques and basic first aid.
The station officer from the fire and emergency services spoke on the dos and don’ts with regard to fire safety, and explained the various types of fire extinguishers.
Mock drills on “earthquake scenario” were conducted with the guidance of field officers of the disaster management department.
The programmes were conducted at the directorates of tourism, rural development, panchayati raj, science & technology, and land management, and at the State Remote Sensing Application Centre.
