Defending champions Phy Ed retain USL title

RONO HILLS, Oct 22: Defending champions, the Physical Education Department of Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU), has retained its title yet again with a 4-1 victory over the Department of Science United in the final of the 4th edition of the University Soccer League (USL) played at the university’s ground here on Tuesday.
Eighteen teams from the university fought intensely for the title glory, and the Physical Education team remained unbeaten throughout the 12-day soccer tournament, an annual football event of RGU.
The scorers for Physical Education Department were Mibol Zongluzu, Limbi Manzo and Khyoda Tai.
The Science United team made the error of scoring an own goal, and added to the points of Physical Education. Koniang Yangfo was the lone scorer for the team of Science United.
Kago Lampung, Kadum Sarah and Khyoda Tai of the Physical Education team were declared the best player, the best defender and the highest goals scorer, respectively, of the tournament.
The best goalkeeper award went to Charu Okam of the Scholar’s team, while Department of Master of Social Work received the ‘most disciplined team’ award.
Addressing players and sports enthusiasts at the closing ceremony, Basar MLA Gokar Basar said, “Change in Arunachal Pradesh can come from the young blood of this university.” He assured his help in development of sports in the university.
Basar also gave away the trophies, cash prizes and awards to the winner and the runner-up teams and the skilfull players.
