Covid-19: E/Siang DA urges people not to panic

PASIGHAT, Mar 12: The East Siang district administration (DA) has urged the people not to panic as no coronavirus case has been reported in the state so far.
The district is on high alert in view of the outbreak of the coronavirus (Covid-19) in China and other neighbouring countries.
DMO Dr Kaling Dai said the health department is taking all precautionary measure to prevent the entry of the virus in the district. A rapid response team has been constituted in the district, which is constantly monitoring the situation, he said.
“The medical officers of Bakin Pertin General Hospital, the Ruksin FRU and rural PHCs are instructed to keep sharp vigil on the situation and immediately report to the district authority if any suspected case is noticed. Also, the state government has identified five zonal quarantine facilities, including in East Siang, as a precautionary measure to prevent the spread of Covid-19,” Dai said, adding that the government is also organizing training programmes for doctors and health department staffs to sensitize the officials and locals to the preventive measures to be taken against the disease.
It bears mentioning that the state government has suspended issuing of protected area permits to prevent the entry of foreign visitors, in view of the Covid-19 outbreak in different countries.
On the other hand, the health department in Dhemaji (Assam), bordering East and Lower Siang districts, has reported that no case of coronavirus infection has been traced in Dhemaji district so far.
