Time to get back to work

With the election of the zilla parishad chairpersons, gram panchayat chairpersons, mayor and chief councillor, the process for the Panchayat and Municipal elections is finally over. For the last few months, the whole state was under the grip of election fever.
With the election process over, politics should take a backseat henceforth and development issues should be the main focus.
The Panchayat and Municipal bodies play an important role in the development process. They represent the true aspirations of the people at the grass-root level.
The state capital Itanagar has for the first time elected a mayor and deputy mayor. Senior BJP leader Tame Phassang, who won the election of corporator from Ward No. 17, has been elected as the first mayor of Itanagar, while NPP corporator Biri Basang will be his deputy.
The Itanagar Municipal Corporation (IMC) has a massive task ahead of it.
The implementation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ambitious smart city project in the state capital is being largely taken care of by the IMC and huge fund is being pumped in under the smart city project. Issues like lack of parking space, poor solid waste management and rampant illegal encroachment into government land have become major menaces in the state capital. The people of the capital complex will be hoping that the IMC under new leadership will work on these issues.
