Time to resolve the ceaseless boundary issue

In yet another brazen act of carrying out illegal activities inside the Arunachal territory, the Assam Police on Tuesday carried out an eviction drive at Taraso circle under Papum Pare district.

A house belonging to a local villager was demolished by the Assam officials. The brazenness of Assam officials is growing day-by-day. They randomly carry out illegal eviction drives inside Arunachal territory without any fear. Areas like Tarasso, Kimin etc in Papum Pare district are the worst sufferers.

Several important PMGSY road projects along the Assam-Arunachal boundary have also been stopped because of the constant disturbance from Assam officials. The people living near the inter-state boundary live in constant fear.

Even though the matter is pending before the Supreme Court of India, the governments of Assam and Arunachal should explore the possibilities of resolving the boundary issue. The longer this issue drags on, the more it is going to create hostility between the people of the two states. No one is set to gain through the constant dispute over boundaries. In the greater interest of the nation and the people of the two states, serious attempts should be made to resolve the long-pending boundary dispute outside the perimeter of the Supreme Court of India.
