ITANAGAR, 23 Mar: Dr Suman Chakrabarty, a distinguished anthropologist from Kolkata (WB)-based Mrinalini Datta Mahavidyapith, delivered an invited talk on the topic ‘Nutritional anthropology: Historical genesis vs modern implications’ to the students of Dera Natung Government College’s (DNGC) anthropology department on Tuesday.
He spoke about the interaction between biology and culture, nutrition and health, and future opportunities of the application of nutritional anthropology. Noting that lifestyle changes have led to an increased risk of various health problems, he said “changes in food habits of the people have an impact on the overall health of people.”
Dr Chakrabarty emphasized the need for “serious anthropological research to bring important solutions and recommendations.”
DNGC Principal Dr MQ Khan congratulated the anthropology department for organizing the special talk. He also encouraged students to keep their bodies healthy by exercising and eating less junk food.
