The coronavirus pandemic has further accentuated the prevailing urban-rural divide in multiple ways. Of particular concern is the way the pandemic has widened the gulf in the education sector and how it has impacted access to learning for children in villages. While students of urban areas managed to continue to attend online classes, those in the rural areas suffered. Many districts of Arunachal do not have proper internet facilities. Also, many students belonging to poor economic background could not afford smartphones. The pandemic has unleashed a colossal damage on school education, particularly in the rural areas.
The schools lack the infrastructure to relay lessons digitally. Most of the government schools do not have internet facilities. For most children in Arunachal, the situation is grim. Lack of access to schools is fundamentally reshaping their lives for the worse. The Covid pandemic has also impacted the earnings of the people. The rich are becoming richer while the poor are becoming poorer. With the economy down, the poor Arunachalees are struggling to make ends meet. Majority of citizens are dependent either on government jobs or government contract works. But the economy is down and the funding from the central government is reducing and due to this people are not getting contract works. The rich are still using their contacts and continuing to get work. For the poor, the situation is going from bad to worse.
