AALO, 6 Dec: The Aalo unit of the Arunachal Pradesh Women’s Welfare Society (APWWS), in collaboration with the Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women (APSCW) organized a legal awareness programme here in West Siang district on Monday.
During the programme, which saw the participation of members of sector women’s wings, HoDs, GBs, panchayat members and anganwadi workers, Aalo East MLA and law & justice advisor Kento Jini said that, while the rights, duties and liberties of women have been defined under Articles 15, 16, 19, 21 and 300 A to safeguard them, “the government has also enacted several Acts and welfare measures like Beti Bachao, Beti Padao, one-stop centre schemes, free legal services, women helpline schemes, working women’s hostel, Nari Shakti Puraskar, etc, to protect them.”
APSCW member Hoksum Ori spoke about the role of the commission, and former APWWS president Jarjum Ete stressed on compulsory registration of marriage, and said that the time has come for the womenfolk to know their rights, duties and privileges.
SDO Henkir Lollen lauded women for playing a pivotal role in curbing social evils, while Inspector Pari spoke on crimes against women, Dr J Kato dwelt on drug abuse and alcoholism, and advocate Jorik Bagra briefed the participants on property rights of women in the context of Arunachal Pradesh.
APWWS unit president Marbom Bagra and secretary Roge Ado Ete also spoke. (DIPRO)
