The number of Covid-19 cases is rising at an alarming rate in the state. The Itanagar capital region (ICR) is the worst affected. Four areas in the ICR have been declared as micro-containment zones, following the detection of 51 cases in the areas. ICR DMO Dr Mandip Perme has warned of the possibility of the Omicron variant being the cause for the sudden surge in the number of cases.
This is a cause of concern as various restrictions imposed by the state government are not being properly implemented.
People are hardly following Covid protocols. Rarely anyone wears masks in public though it has been made compulsory. Large-scale gatherings continue to take place. Picnics are happening and, in many areas, weekly markets are still open.
Also, in the midst of the Covid surge, the government is going ahead with the celebration of 50 years of the naming of Arunachal Pradesh. This is sending the wrong message to the masses. It seems a sense of complacency has gripped the state. This has the potential to backfire considering how Covid has hit the whole world hard.
The restrictions imposed by the government should be strictly implemented. If they are implemented properly it will break the chain of infections and soon the state can go back to normal.
