PASIGHAT, 3 Feb: Twenty-five farmers from Riga circle in Siang district are participating in a three-day training programme on ‘Advances in production technology of important fruit crops in NE India’, which got underway here in East Siang district on Thursday.
The programme is being conducted by the College of Horticulture & Forestry (CHF) here.
Addressing the inaugural function, CHF Dean Prof BN Hazarika advised the farmers to undergo training in cultivation, management and harvesting practices to boost production.
The college’s Fruit Science Department Head, Dr L Wangchu conducted a session on advanced production technology and management of litchi, Khasi mandarin and other citrus fruits.
A lecture on ‘Limes and lemon production technology’ was delivered by Drs Barun Singh and PK Nimbolkar. They presented demonstrations on budding and other vegetative propagation methods in citrus fruits and other important crops.
Organizer Tabi Mize informed that the farmers of remote Riga village are taking up massive horticulture activities under the supervision of the CHF and agriculture scientists.
“The farmers of Riga, including Sitang, Riga and Pangkang villages, are undergoing large-scale cultivation of small millets, apple and kiwi on the hill slopes and fertile plain lands on high-altitude terrain,” he said.
