Guwahati, Mar 24 (PTI) Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday urged the Karbi community to develop their language and culture while marching forward towards prosperity.
The Karbi community has a rich cultural heritage and folklore which is an invaluable asset to the state which must be preserved at all cost, the Chief Minister said while addressing the 30th conference of the literary organisation -Karbi Lammet Amei – at Donkamukam in West Karbi Anglong.
The Karbi language and culture have enriched the diversity of the state and his government was committed to the development of Karbi language and culture, he said.

Sarma said that love for one’s mother tongue helps people to live with dignity by enriching and strengthening their identity.
The Karbi Lammet Amei has given a platform to the writers and litterateurs of the community to practice their language and literature, he added.
Karbi writers have immensely enriched Assamese literature without diluting their own ethnic identity. They have not only paved the way for Karbi literature but also opened new avenues for cultural exchange, harmony and camaraderie, Sarma added.
President of Karbi Lammet Amei Sukursing Rongpi presided over the open session which was also attended by Deputy Speaker of Assam Legislative Assembly Dr. Nomal Momin, BJP state unit President Bhabesh Kalita, Chief Executive Member of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council Tuliram Ronghang and MLAs Rupsing Teron, Bidyasing Engleng and Dorsing Rohang.
