KAYING, 6 May: Seven houses were destroyed in a fire that broke out in Medical Colony here in Siang district on 5 May.
An electric short-circuit is suspected to be the cause of the blaze, though it is yet to be confirmed. No causalities were reported.
The Indian Army played a major role in putting out the fire. Police personnel and nearby residents also joined in dousing the flames, and provided aid and relief to the affected families.
Kaying CO (in-charge) Ama Nungnu visited the affected families and provided immediate relief in the form of ration.
On Friday, Rumgong MLA Talem Taboh and Payum ZPM Payum Yaki Taring, accompanied by officials from the Siang district administration, visited the affected families and provided immediate relief to them.
The MLA and the ZPM donated blankets and utensils along with financial assistance to the affected families.
The CO, on behalf of the district administration, provided financial assistance of Rs 1,01,900 to the fire victims, besides ration items.
Pasighat West MLA Ninong Ering also donated Rs 1 lakh for the affected families. (DIPRO)
