DAMBUK, 6 May: Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein on Friday visited Bongal Yapgo – a war memorial site of the 3rd Anglo-Abor war of 1894 – here in Lower Dibang Valley district, and paid rich tributes to the Adi martyrs.
Lauding the Bongal Yapgo Preservation Committee for preserving and protecting the remnants of the great Anglo-Abor war of 1894, Mein said that “this heritage site is a pride of Arunachal and will soon be the most sought after heritage site in the state.”
He informed that the Unsung Hero Core Committee, with the support of the history department of RGU, is collecting historical facts and records from important national and state archives.
“On compilation of the records, it will be submitted to the government of India,” he said.
Stating that the government is committed to preserve and protect the heritage sites and war memorials in the state, the DCM called upon the younger generation to shoulder the responsibility of preserving, promoting and protecting the rich tradition, culture and language.
“Our history should be reflected in the books of Indian history. It is high time we must rewrite our history,” he added.
Responding to a memorandum submitted by the Bongal Yapgo Preservation Committee, the DCM assured to take up the matter at the meeting of the Unsung Hero Core Committee and submit the recommendations to the state government. (DCM’s PR Cell)
