LUKSIM, 9 May: The gaon burah (GB) of Luksim village in Longding district, Nahpho Boham (aged around 55), was abducted by NSCN (K-YA) operatives at gunpoint on Sunday night.

According to the police, five NSCN (K-YA) operatives entered the GB’s home at around 10:30 pm and took him with them towards Luakkun village in the neighbouring state of Nagaland.

Reportedly, the operatives had been camping at Luakkun village for a few days. They accused the GB of providing information about their movements to the security forces.

The police further informed that the reason behind the abduction is “non-payment of house and indent taxes levied by the insurgent group.”

The villagers have not paid these taxes for the last four years.

According to sources, the insurgent group has reportedly demanded a ransom of Rs 4.5 lakhs for the release of the GB.

Meanwhile, the Rujen Students’ Union and the public staged a rally in Kanubari town on Monday to protest the abduction.

The protesters carried placards saying ‘No insurgency, NSCN stop abduction’, and shouted slogans, asking for peace in the region.
