Sonowal, Governor discuss AYUSH, yoga and underwater tunnel in Brahmaputra

Union Minister assures to help Ziro Health and Wellness Center

ITANAGAR, 8 Jun: Union Minister for AYUSH, Ports, Shipping & Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal called on Governor BD Mishra at Raj Bhavan, here on Wednesday and discussed about promotion of AYUSH, yoga and the proposed underwater tunnel in Brahmaputra.

During their discussion, the governor emphasized on reviving the Indian traditional system of medicine and optimal development and propagation of the AYUSH system of healthcare.

Mishra called for strengthening Ayurveda research institution in the state by ensuring time-bound research programmes on identified diseases.

The governor also highlighted about the traditional folk medicines practiced by the people of Arunachal Pradesh since time immemorial. He suggested the minister for documentation and validation of folk medicine practices in the state.

Mishra sought assistance from AYUSH ministry for appointment of yoga teachers in each and every educational institute in Arunachal Pradesh.

He said that the proposed underwater tunnel in Brahmaputra will be a boon for the area.

The governor said that once completed, it will boost tourism in both the states.

Sonowal assured the governor of taking up the issues with his officers for overall progress of Arunachal Pradesh.

Later, he left for Ziro on a two-day tour.

The union minister visited a fair price shop at Hong village where he interacted with the beneficiaries and the ration card holders. Beneficiaries shared their experiences during the Covid lockdown period, when obtaining ration was a herculean task as movement was completely banned and how the free rice distributed at the door steps by the district administration under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana was a huge relief for them.

He then visited the AYUSH Health and Wellness Center at Manipolyang and interacted with the staffs of the centre. He assured to assist in upgrading the amenities of the wellness center. The union minister also inspected the Gyati Takka General Hospital and took stock of the Jan Aushadhi store being run in the hospital. He also visited the dialysis unit, Homeopathy and the AYUSH OPD and interacted with the doctors and nurses on duty.

Minister agri and allied departments Tage Taki, minister for education Taba Tedir, APCL chairman Bokul Deka, director health services Dr. M Lego and deputy director health services (AYUSH) Dr. Dusu Laji are accompanying the minister. (DIPRO, PRO to Raj Bhavan)
