Not surprisingly, the single JD (U) MLA, Techi Kaso, along with several of his supporters and panchayat leaders joined the BJP on Wednesday. Only the state unit president, Ruhi Tagung, is left with the JD (U). Kaso is considered to be a popular grassroots leader and the BJP will consider it a big coup to have convinced him to join the saffron party. During the election to the Itanagar Municipal Corporation, he single-handedly almost took the JD (U) to the brink of victory. His joining the BJP is a loss for the opposition voice in the state. On many occasions, he gave strong statements against the state and central governments for neglecting his assembly constituency.
The BJP, which is still hurting from the decision of the JD (U) to ditch the saffron party in Bihar, is now going all out to try to finish off the JD (U). It is believed that, across India, the BJP is trying to lure JD (U) leaders to join the BJP. This is absolutely wrong. Since the BJP came to power at the Centre, it has been making every effort to try to destabilise the opposition-run governments in the country. Using financial clout and agencies like the CBI, ED, IT, etc, the saffron party keeps trying to bring down the opposition government. Never before in the history of democratic India has this kind of brazen misuse of power and money by the union government been seen in this country. The BJP is setting a wrong trend.
