RUKSIN, 10 Feb: NABARD General Manager Partho Saha on Friday inaugurated a rural mart here in East Siang district, in the presence of NABARD DDM Nitya Mili, the Ruksin APRB branch manager, the chairman of the Dite Mopang Welfare Society (DMWS), and members of SHGs.
“The rural mart has been sanctioned to SHG Takar Angun, and is being facilitated by the DMWS,” the NABARD informed in a release.
The NABARD will provide grant assistance to cover the initial operational costs like rent and salary of sales personnel, besides the cost of promotion, and basic capital costs.
“This will help the SHG members who may be risk averse and lack financial capability to have a marketing outlet for their products,” the NABARD said, adding that “the mart will provide employment and livelihood opportunities to many SHG members and families in the district.”
The scheme is a part of the marketing initiatives supported by the NABARD to enable the producers to sell their farm and off-farm products at reasonable prices by avoiding involvement of intermediaries. It will serve as a link between the producers and the customers, thus aiding generation of additional income and employment at the grassroots level.
Speaking on the occasion, Saha announced that “the Adi textile has been taken up for GI registration by NABARD and the application has already been filed, which will give a unique identity to the handloom products of the district being produced by the SHG members.”
Mili also spoke.
Earlier in the day, the GM, the DDM and others visited the poultry farms of the beneficiaries in Roing and Jia village in Lower Dibang Valley district.
“The Balek Krishi Vigyan Kendra has implemented a project on capacity building and handholding of 60 small scale poultry farmers in Lower Dibang Valley district,” it said.
