Skill orientation prog organised

ITANAGAR, 31 Aug: The agriculture department of Himalayan University (HU) here organised a ‘skill orientation programme’ themed ‘Demonstration of advanced technique in agriculture’ on Thursday at Karsingsa village to enable the university’s BSc (agriculture) students to update their knowledge of new techniques in agriculture.

Prior to the programme, which was led by HU agriculture HoD Dr Raja Husain, along with faculty members Dr Sonbeer, Dr Lipi, Dr Kasinam, and Lishi, Dr Husain instructed the students to “learn well during the entire session to implement in future for vocational, livelihood and human welfare purposes,” the HU informed in a release.

Karsingsa-based Papum Pare KVK agronomy expert Tadang Meena inaugurated the programme and felicitated the university’s team. She apprised the students of the KVK’s activities and demonstration units.

She took the team on a tour of the KVK’s premises and “the crop trial of ragi (millet) field,” and explained crop trial, including “the intercropping of millet and legume crops and benefits of intercropping of both crops in reference to crop yield.”

KVK fisheries expert Dr Vivekanand Safi delivered a talk on fish culture and took the HU team to the KVK’s “demonstration unit of fish culture or pond,” and spoke on rearing different species of fishes and the procedure and conditions to be followed to rear different species of fishes.

KVK horticulture expert Hemanta Ngangbam explained “crop management practices of horticultural crops,” and emphasised on “strategies of production and management practices of vegetables in the local area,” the release stated.

Approximately 30 BSc (agriculture) final-year students of HU took part in the programme, the release stated.
