Diagnostic field visits conducted

NYIGAM, 21 Nov: Scientists of the ICAR’s Basar-based state centre on Tuesday went on ‘diagnostic field visits’ to poultry farms owned by tribal farmers in Nyigam village in Leparada district.

Senior scientist (veterinary extension) Dr Doni Jini, and senior scientist (veterinary parasitology) Dr Joken Bam, who visited the farms at the farmers’ request, informed that “a few birds in one farm were found to be suffering from diarrhoea.”

The duo advised the farmers to segregate the sick birds, and apprised them of the drugs and the correct doses to be used to treat diarrhoea in the sick birds. The farmers were also advised to use preventive doses for the rest of the flock.

“The farmers were shown how to vaccinate birds, and were apprised of a few modifications to be made in feeding and farm operation for the welfare of the birds, ease of handling, and increased productivity,” the centre informed in a release.
