Editor,
This is to highlight that, while the simultaneous Lok Sabha and assembly elections are approaching closer, the salaries of the regular government employees of the ICR and the Papum Pare district education departments remain unpaid since February.
The salary bill has already been prepared and is in the treasury office, but the reason for not disbursing the salaries remains unknown.
Non-approval by the finance department has been cited as a reason, but the education departments of the other 24 districts have been paid either in the end of February or the first week of March. Therefore, suspicion of fund diversion or mismanagement is in the air, with the election approaching closer.
While it is understood that the salaries for March get delayed every year, owing the March ending period, the salaries for February never get delayed for so long.
Also, it is pertinent to mention that sincere government employees, especially the teachers, have no source of income other than their salaries; therefore it has become very difficult for them to pay their children’s school fees, loans, and EMIs, and to meet their daily expenses.
Therefore the authorities concerned should kindly look into the matter.
