APBC organises bird count in two dists

ZIRO, 18 Feb: The Arunachal Pradesh Birding Club (APBC) organised a four-day Global Great Backyard Bird Count (GBBC) here in Lower Subansiri district and in Belo village in Pistana circle of Keyi Panyor district.

The first two days of the GBBC on 14 and 15 February was organised at Ziro. The bird count exercise was carried out on the outskirts of Myolyang village and Kley Pakho forest areas.

The next two days’ bird count was organised at Belo village on 16 and 17 February, in the presence of a large number of villagers. An interactive session on bird conservation was also organised, involving school teachers, panchayat members, gaon burahs and members of the Belo Village Welfare Committee.

During the meet, birder Millo Tako delivered a presentation on how to identify birds, and Koj Tubing, a wildlife student from Guwahati University delivered a presentation on the importance of bird watching. The session was moderated by a local conservationist Likha Tai, a botanist from RGU, Doimukh. Tai emphasised on encouraging long-term conservation of birds.

The APBC is a pioneer in bird conservation in the state since 2012. Renowned conservationist Koj Mama took the initiative in organise the event in the two districts.
