Protect rivers from further degradation

Editor,

Through the columns of your esteemed newspaper, I wish to highlight the growing concern over the encouragement of illegal riverbank encroachment, unauthorised land transactions, and commercial activities that are threatening the ecological balance of the rivers.

Rampant buying and selling of land without proper ownership documentation, along with the unregulated establishment of dhabas, restaurants, and mining activities, are posing severe threats to both the environment and aquatic life.

Unrestricted stone and sand gravel mining in and around the rivers is causing extensive ecological degradation. These activities not only disrupt the natural habitat of aquatic animals but also contribute to water pollution and soil erosion. The situation is further aggravated by the growing trend of hosting DJ parties at night, which results in significant noise pollution and disturbs both humans and wildlife.

The authorities concerned must take immediate and stringent actions to curb these illegal activities. Proper regulations and monitoring mechanisms should be enforced to prevent unauthorised land transactions, commercial encroachments, and environmental exploitation. The preservation of our rivers and their ecosystems is crucial for the wellbeing of present and future generations.

I urge the government and the relevant agencies to intervene at the earliest and implement necessary measures to protect the rivers from further degradation.
