Make GE, GS and aptitude paper qualifying in nature for AE exam

Editor,

In the draft scheme of examination for the post of assistant engineer doing the rounds on social media, the marks of general papers – general English (GE), general studies (GS) and aptitude – have been mentioned as 150. It is very much appreciated that the commission is in the process of standardising the outdated scheme of examination, which is long overdue.

However, in technical examinations, allotting such huge marks would unnecessarily shift the focus from technical papers to general paper, making it disadvantageous for candidates with better technical knowledge but weak general knowledge, thus undermining the whole process of fairness and talent based recruitment.

It is well known that in competitive examinations even zero point one marks decides the select list. Therefore, I request the commission to make the general paper qualifying in nature and let that deciding zero point one marks be that of technical paper rather than general paper.
