Editor,
Through your esteemed daily I would like to highlight job scams happening in Siang district. On 22 April, the Pangin ICDS had conducted interview for several contractual posts for the DCPU and the OSC to fill up vacancies such as case worker, psycho counsellor, multipurpose staffer (skilled), and multipurpose staffer (unskilled) for OSC and data analyst for the DCPU, Siang district. It was very saddening to learn from the officer concerned through verbal conversation that the minister and the MLA of the two constituencies of Siang district sent recommendations to the officer for the recruitment of their candidates to these vacancies.
Similarly, in 2024, various casual skilled and unskilled jobs in the establishment of the Pangin ADC, the Kaying ADC and the Boleng ADC were conducted, which were filled in the same manner.
This is not the first time that such a thing has happened in Siang district; it has been happening since it’s inception in 2016, when several vacancies of Group C posts such as LDC, UDC and MTS were recruited through scamming but later the high court had quashed the recruitment process and ordered restarting the process afresh. Later, in the 2021 APPSC job scam, Siang district recorded the highest illegal recruitment, and even the main culprits were from Siang district. In 2023, Siang district again came in the limelight in a job scam in the education department, where many culprits were arrested and later terminated from their jobs. Many employees are working in the Panging JJB and the Pangin DCPU without facing an interview.
If this trend continues, what would candidates without political and financial background do? Thousands of candidates come from faraway places to appear for the interview which is already sanctioned to someone else through the backdoor, involving thousands of rupees. The BJP government always says ‘Na khaunga na khane dunga’ and ‘Sab ka saath sab ka vikas’ and Chief Minister Pema Khandu always says that his government is against any form of corruption. But, to the contrary in Siang district, in spite of having a BJP MLA in two constituencies, corruption is present in all recruitment processes in any department. These activities are discouraging for the job aspirants of Siang district. This practice has to be put to an end at the earliest to give a fair chance to all aspiring candidates. This practice raises a fear psychosis about government jobs among the aspirants and parents in Siang district. The authorities at the highest level should intervene in this matter to stop such practice in the future.
I humbly request the chief minister to guide his legislators and officers to conduct job interviews in a fair manner, so that deserving candidates get jobs.
