Editor,
As I reflect on the quality of education being imparted in the Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBVs) of Arunachal Pradesh, managed by an NGO, I am compelled to express my deep concern.
Despite the commendable intentions behind establishing these schools, the execution and management have raised serious concerns. The appointment of teachers and head teachers without interviews compromises transparency and merit, ultimately affecting the overall quality of education.
Furthermore, the lack of professionalism among teachers and inadequate infrastructure hinder the learning experience. The absence of clear accountability mechanisms allows schools to operate without oversight, exacerbating disparities in resource allocation. These issues collectively impact student outcomes and the overall effectiveness of the KGBV system.
To address these concerns, I propose that teachers be appointed through the deputy director of school education (DDSE) to ensure a transparent and merit-based process.
Additionally, KGBVs should be run directly by the Arunachal Pradesh government to improve accountability and resource allocation. Regular monitoring and evaluation mechanisms should be established, and teachers should undergo regular training and capacity-building programmes to enhance their professionalism.
By implementing these changes, we can work towards ensuring quality education for all students in KGBVs. I hope this letter will spark a discussion on the need for improvement in the KGBV system and prompt stakeholders to take necessary actions.
