Editor,

I would like to draw the attention of the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) to the fate of the post graduate teacher (PGT) examination.

Since 2022, this examination has been endlessly postponed. Candidates, who have been preparing tirelessly for years, are left in a state of perpetual uncertainty. The APPSC 2025 calendar had mentioned its tentative RT date in June 2025. But the advertisement came in August. Recently, the exam was again deferred barely two weeks before the scheduled date, when candidates were already mentally prepared. Such last-minute changes cause severe mental harassment, emotional breakdowns, and financial strain on thousands of unemployed youths.

The number of vacancies advertised this year is already far below expectations, considering that this exam was announced after nearly seven years. Yet, instead of relief, the aspirants are subjected to repeated postponements for reasons known best to the administration. Many of us have resigned from our contractual jobs and are sustaining ourselves on meagre family resources in this ever-expensive capital city. Some have pressing family responsibilities, while others are delaying important life decisions such as marriage, family planning, life choices, just to dedicate their youthful years to this exam. Some of us have even exhausted our upper age limit.

We, the aspirants, therefore ask: Is this examination ever going to be conducted, or should we abandon it and pursue other means of livelihood? Why is there a need for such rash postponement at the eleventh hour? Can the commission provide a clear commitment instead of prolonging our suffering?

The newly formed commission is expected to restore trust, and function differently from its infamous predecessor. We want to believe in this commission, given how smoothly the recent APPSCCE was conducted and hundreds of genuine youths were recruited.

We demand clarity and a firm commitment from the commission if this exam is to see the daylight. Let there be no more postponements, and conduct the examination on the scheduled date. Let it be get over as soon as possible, so that we may move on with our lives, rather than waste away our most crucial years in uncertainty.
