The Nah Welfare Society submitted a six-point memorandum to the chief minister during his recent visit to Taksing, seeking basic facilities such as road connectivity, water supply, and livelihood options.
Taksing remains one of the most underdeveloped regions and was accessible only by air, as roads remained unbuilt for decades. The area was brought under a road network only in 2019, which has signalled some measure of hope for the people.
The plans for the region are ambitious, and the area has huge tourism potential if developed properly. However, much will depend on all-season accessibility.
The Frontier Highway, a strategic border road project, promises to be a good starting point to connect the region. The government must ensure that it does not meet the same fate as other roads, as the area desperately needs proper connectivity. Promises have been made to the people of Taksing, and now it is time to start delivering.
