LEKHI, 21 Feb: The Women’s Development Cell and the legal studies department of Arunodaya University here, in collaboration with the National Service Scheme (NSS) Cell, organised a workshop on the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 (POSH Act) recently.
Themed ‘Empowerment through awareness: Understanding POSH Act for safe workplaces’, the programme commenced with an address by Student Welfare Dean Anurag Tiwari, who emphasised the importance of creating safe and inclusive academic and professional environments.
Legal Studies Department Head Mantu Acharjeedelivered an overview of the provisions of the POSH Act, 2013, highlighting the legal framework, responsibilities of institutions, and the significance of internal complaints committees (ICCs).
Legal Studies Assistant Professor Licha Yaniaengaged participants through case studies and real-life scenarios, enabling them to understand practical aspects of complaint redressal mechanisms.
A video awareness session was presented by Pranjal Saikia from the NSS Cell, reinforcing the message of prevention and accountability.
The workshop was attended by law students, NSS volunteers, faculty members, and administrative staff.
The participants gained awareness about the definition of sexual harassment under Section 2(n) of the Act, the mandatory constitution of ICCs in organisations with 10 or more employees, time-bound inquiry process, confidentiality requirements, and employer liability in cases of non-compliance.
