NAHARLAGUN, 10 Mar: The North East Institute of Science & Technology’s (NEIST) Itanagar branch organised a workshop themed ‘Indigenous knowledge to evidence-based medicine: Ethnopharmacology of natural products’ at its office here on Tuesday.
About 50 participants, including faculty members, research scholars, and MSc students from Rajiv Gandhi University, NERIST, and Madhabdev University, Narayanpur, Assam attended the workshop.
Following the welcome address by NEIST Itanagar branch senior principal scientist Dr Chandan Tamuly, principal scientist Dr Ravindra K Rawal delivered a talk on ‘Basic of natural product research: From basic to advanced’. He explained the basics of natural product, and the significant importance of medicinal and aromatic plants in the context of Arunachal Pradesh.
Principal scientist Dr Prasenjit Manna delivered a talk titled ‘Traditional wisdom to modern medicine: Ethnopharmacological insights into natural products’.
Following this, a hands-on training and demonstration programme on different equipment, such as gas chromatography-mass spectrophotometry (GC-MS), high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), and bio-assay facilities of research and development was carried out.
